We are excited to present the next Collaborate2Cure series that will focus on value-based healthcare.  The Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute created Collaborate2Cure as a tool to stimulate collaboration in specific areas.  We invite regional experts, researchers, students and the community to come together around a specific problem and encourage new collaborations to develop novel solutions for these problems.

Our first Collaborate2Cure series in 2016 focused on Cancer Immunotherapy and was facilitated by Dr. Doug Myers, a pediatric oncologist at Children’s Mercy.  It was very successful and stimulated new collaborations between an animal health company, Elias Animal Health, and Children’s Mercy to help bring a new treatment option for pediatric glioma.

Our second Collaborate2Cure series in 2017 focused on Mitochondrial Dysfunction and was led by Dr. Russell Swerdlow at KUMC and Baki Agbas at KCU.  For over 16 weeks, weekly presentations explored the linkage of mitochondria in ALS, Alzheimer’s disease, obesity and many other areas.

In 2018, our Collaborate2Cure series will highlight opportunities in Value-Based Healthcare.  We will have presentations from outcome research experts, chief quality and medical officers at hospital systems and payers describing the challenges they face in healthcare today and solutions to improve quality, outcomes and drive down the cost of healthcare.  The presentations will be once a month so watch the schedule closely.  The series will be facilitated by two regional experts in value-based healthcare, Stacy Farr and Carole Decker.  If you are interested in presenting, please contact Stacy or Carole, they are listed in the “People” section.
