I am a first-year student at Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences (KCUMB) pursuing a M.S. in Biomedical Sciences. My research focuses on deciphering the mechanism for vertical transmission of Zika virus (ZIKV) from mother to fetus resulting in microcephaly through development of animal models. As ZIKV & Congenital Zika Syndrome continue to persist as international public health threats, research initiatives to better understand the atypical transmission routes of ZIKV are imperative for the development of medical countermeasures.

I am humbled for the opportunity to be at the forefront of this developing field. All research for this study is completed through MRIGlobal under principal scientist, Carl Gelhaus, Ph.D., and is funded by the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute (KCALSI).

I recieved a B.S. in Biological Sciences through the University of Nebraska in May 2016.
